The Swap
The weekend was better than I had expected. I've been too busy to blog for a few days, so I guess I'd better get an entry in before I forget again.

The Niagara ABATE Swap

Saturday was a nice, breezy T-shirt sort of day, we had a good turnout for the swap, lots of bikes, and plenty of beer drinkers, which helped to make us some money. The laptop performed flawlessly, and we had music all day long. I set up a song list, and then headed home for a shower and a nap, came back 2 hours later, and the laptop was still cranking out the toons. No problems at all. I was happy about that, indeed. I had spent Friday night alone with the grounds, slept in the van for a couple hours and spent most of the evening doing things like setting up the P.A., getting tables positioned and moving garbage cans into place. It's really something when you're alone, left to handle a responsibility like doing security on the fair grounds at night - the watch shift. I was bored, and yet, not bored at the same time, because I kept finding thing to do to pass the time.

Back to Saturday - the morning was a slow one, as vendors arrived to setup for the weekend. Not one of the workers for the swap showed up until very late in the day, and I for one, was getting worried that no one was going to come at all. If it weren't for Frank coming in at 7:30 to help, I would have had a tough time managing everything alone. Thanks Frank, you're a hero!

Some of the people that promised to come did, but then left before the end, and some others didn't even show up at all. Those that did show up, stayed all day and worked without complaint, and were great to have on hand. My hats off to Dennis, Robin, John and his charming girlfriend, Lisa, Ray, Rip and Holy Dick.

Saturday night was a cold, long night, but Holy Dick stayed with me and we worked the night shift together, taking turns making the rounds in the cold blackness. The next morning was an icy, grey, windy, nasty day but we made it through and people came to buy shit, and drink beer, and we had a pretty good day - I got home and collapsed on the bed, and stayed there until morning where I promptly arose and drove to Canandaigua to get Patti.

I didn't like the weekend, and hope I don't have to do it again next year.
